Surprise visitor

During a short stay in Weymouth we were surprised to see a roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) in the front garden one morning. It was a bit confused about where it was and attempted to push its way through a metal gate before turning and retreating down the drive. We're not sure where it went but hope it found its way back to the fields.

Winter visitors

This weekend I went to see a friend in South Gloucestershire who has some very friendly neighbours who come to visit regularly.

Scottish seals

Last week I was in Scotland on a research trip. I had a bit of time while I was there to go in search of the local wildlife and my favourite spot was a group of frolicking seals in Portgordon. I think there were both grey and common seals present and I was amazed at how happily they swam in the water near to the beach, unperturbed by my presence.

A new blog

Last year I started my blog Wild Catalonia and I have enjoyed adding photos and videos to it and certainly hope to continue doing so in the future. However, being British, I feel that I need to have a blog to share any wildlife experiences that take place when I am back in my home country. I have been prompted to start the blog now because I will soon be going to Scotland for a few days on a research trip and I really hope to get some good photos which I can share here. In the meantime, here is a photo from last summer, taken in Dorset, of some badgers enjoying a peanut snack at Old Henley Farm.
